UPDATE: Watch Jon Stewart on the Daily Show say some of what I imagine Kyle’s final speech might have said without getting censored. On Comedy Central. And with repeats throughout the next day, which the channel did not allow for South Park.

Here’s what is especially awesome about the Daily Show clip. Aasif Mandvi, when asked if, as a Muslim, he would get offended by South Park’s portrayal of Muhammad, he admits that he would feel uncomfortable, even when he could have easily said the more popular and obvious response: “No, just like I don’t get offended by their portrayal of Jesus Christ watching internet porn or Buddha snorting cocaine.”

He was completely honest, which is all we should ever expect of people.

I will gladly defend South Park for almost every issue they have ever tackled, but I refuse to have a post on my blog even remotely similar to the millions of ignorant posts by Muslim-hating assholes across the internet who are just as bad as those extremists.

Muslims can be offended by images of Muhammad if they want to be. The only problem was that a small group would try to intimidate others for doing it.

Like many of us, Stanley Kubrick was something of a pack rat, and not overly fond of organization. So it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that, amid the reportedly chaotic hodge-podge of the director’s effects, undiscovered treasures are buried. One such treasure: a single copy of a film treatment titled Lunatic at Large, written in the late 1950′s by the briliiant pulp author Jim Thompson at Kubrick’s behest. And now that film is finally being produced, with Production Weekly reporting that Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson are attached.

What modern director could do a Kubrick film justice? Probably no one. This treatment may have Kubrick-isms all over it, but it’s just a page full of words. Words that Kubrick didn’t even write himself.

It doesn’t have Kubrick’s eye for framing, epic wide angles, his use of colors and  ironically flat but gorgeous lighting.

The film won’t have his amazing control over actors. It won’t be casted by him, directed by him, or edited with him. The locations won’t be chosen by him and the sets won’t be built under his direction.

Could it be a good movie? Maybe. Will it be a Kubrick movie? No. Even if it’s phenomenal, it’s not a Kubrick movie. So let’s not get too excited, now. We’ll have to see who directs it.

Honestly, I’d like Steven Spielberg to direct it. They were good friends. Spielberg knows the guy, his films, and A.I. was pretty damn good

Trust me, watch it again. I didn’t believe it at first, either. Was A.I. a Kubrick film? No. But it was getting there.

This is one of my favorite female voices.

No network is covering this leaked military video. Why the hell not? If I were a journalist, I would be excited to get this story out there. Isn’t that the journalist’s dream? To break huge, momentous stories like the one this would be if a single U.S. television program covered it?

Since CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX and even BBC aren’t talking about it, the internet is going to have to do.
